Binchester Roman Fort

Contractor: Durham City Council
Project Location: Bishop Auckland

Project Overview

Binchester Roman Fort was originally established in 79AD to guard the crossing of the River Wear along Dere Street, the main Roman road linking York, Hadrian’s Wall and Scotland.

Ingleford Scaffolding Ltd worked with Durham City Council to provide a structure that would protect the site while allowing visitors to safely view the historic remains.

The Solution

Our team designed and installed a temporary roof scaffold system over the fort. The structure also included a ramped viewing platform, ensuring safe and accessible access for all visitors.

The Result

The installation created a safe viewing area that allows visitors to explore and understand how people lived nearly 2,000 years ago. The structure is also regularly inspected and maintained by our team to ensure continued safety and protection.
